Slim's ToMG 2012 log

Postby Slimnoid » Thu Jan 05, 2012 10:17 am

First of January's submission, Bill's Master of the Forge model. Finished him on Tuesday but wanted to wait until he saw it before I posted.

I like it, though the reds seem a bit orangey...could be the picture. Could use some shading in the metals, nothing a quick wash of black wouldn't straighten out ;)

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

The red was highlighted with orange on the very edges, since I honestly didn't have any lighter red and mixing it to a lighter tone would've made it kind of pink (which um...no, just no). The metal was washed with devlan mud, but yeah I probably should've used some black in there; metal has never been my strong suit when it comes to shading.

Very nice work Slim. The light on the beamer is cool.
The left foot looks a little awkwardly placed, but I really like the concept and conversion.

Very nice transition work on the flame of the last model. All your pledges this month came out great.

Rider looks good. I like the scimitar conversion. His colors seem a bit muted/blended together. Not sure if it is just the picture though.

Nah, it's pretty muted overall. The photo did kind of ruin the blue glow effect, which stands out more in person. Wanted to go for a more dark, intimidating look to him, with a few brighter tones to 'pop out' and seem more intimidating.

Which...didn't quite work out because the model is goofy.
