Planning a Warhammer Mega Battle. March 12.

Postby Commander_Jay » Thu Feb 04, 2016 6:08 pm

Who's up for a Warhammer Mega Battle March 12?
We can do a scenario, allow big armies, with everyone's favorite models!
We'll use some megabattle rules, plus we're likely to edit some of the broken rules just for balance in a big game. Mostly standard 8th edition.

Other people are working on editing 8th to be a more streamlined game. The most popular one right now is 9th Age, which aims to bring all the armies more or less in line with each other. Rules-wise it seems to be much the same, with some notable balance included (namely, spells not being insanely broken).

There's also the option of using Kings of War which, after dropping a second book for the line, has virtually every single WHFB army covered (though not every single unit). Given that mega battles take forever to play and rarely finish to completion, it might be more prudent to use the KoW ruleset; it plays much faster than WHFB ever did, and there's very little rules ambiguity to argue or puzzle over. It lacks some of the 'grit' that WHFB has, but if you're having 8 players and each one is dropping 4,000pts apiece, it's better to be a little more abstract at such a large points value.

We'll try some of those, but some other time. We're hoping for a good old fashioned Warhammer Fantasy game.

Read through the 9th age stuff, seemed interesting but you can really see amateur writing and rule design come through.

If there is still an opening I'd love to join, I can bring 2,500 points of dark elves.
