My biggest hang up with the game is if it will be as good as heroquest was back in the day (simple mechanics and fun), or as good as something like Descent today. Descent has tons of heroes and expansions and the feeling of an RPG as well, but is a bit more complex.

Has anyone tried it out yet? I am still on the fence about picking it up or waiting for new warmachine stuff.

I have it and love it so far.

Dez, how is it rules-wise? Complex but deep, basic and fun, fast or involved?

The rules themselves are very basic and easy to understand, so you can get playing fast. The complexity is in the order you use your dice for abilities or even what order you play in.

I love the Random/AI of things. You'll get a pool of dice at the beginning of each round, and rolling certain combos (pairs, full house, etc) can cause multiple random events to happen. Any dice that don't trigger events can be used by the players to do extra stuff.

It's also random in the board layout, you don't know what's in the next room until you 'explore' it by taking a card from a shuffled deck. Monsters can/will be generated this way, and they have some preprogrammed abilities. you just roll to see what it is they will do.

It's fun, and you can play it by yourself. I'd rather do this than play video games.

So you'd say it's worth the price?

I'm totally happy with it, yes. You'll never play the same game twice, and you can bring your character from game to game.

Also, the Dwarf Doomseeker is THE BOSS!!

We played a full game tonight, and it's one of the best times I've had gaming in a while.
